KENORA, Ont. -- A group of cottagers near Kenora narrowly escaped tragedy Monday night after their boat exploded while they were in it.

The four men, ranging in age from 22 to 59-years-old, were transporting gas cans out of the Bear Point Marina when the explosion occurred.

All four passengers of the boat ended up in the lake and were rescued by people at the marina. They were rushed to hospital in Kenora, and then flown to their hometown of Winnipeg with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ontario Fire Marshall's office will investigate the cause.
