THUNDER BAY -- Police could know by Thursday morning if a body found in the Kaministiquia River is that of a missing boater.

The body was discovered in the river near a bridge on Highway 102 Tuesday afternoon.

"There were a couple of individuals who were fishing in the area and they came across the human remains in the river and called the police," OPP Staff Sgt. James Graham said.

An autopsy will be conducted in Thunder Bay Thursday. Investigators will try to determine if it is the body of a 56-year-old boater who went missing on the Kam River in June.

The search for the boater, who has not been officially identified by officials, began on June 16. While police could not confirm that the body discovered was that of the boater, officials did say that there were no other known missing persons linked to that area.
