The Ontario Coroner's Office has made a positive identification on the human remains found 12 days ago near the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

The body is that of 42-year-old Pauline Kireto, who was first reported missing back on Oct. 15.

Kireto's daughter, Keirsten Sagutch, says she received confirmation Wednesday. Police confirmed this on Thursday, saying a cause of death is not known at this time.

An post-mortem examination was performed on Saturday, and dental records confirmed the identity, Kireto said.

Thunder Bay Police Service spokeswoman Julie Tilbury said they haven’t ruled out foul play and expects to learn the cause of death in a few months.

“In any cases such as this when positive identification has been made it allows us to go to the next step,” she said.

“Incidents like this are hard on the community. Originally there was a ground search that was done in that area.

"The area that she was found was just directly out of the search area and it was very close to residence. We went into the winter months and the elements didn’t allow for her to be located.”
