THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay's Bombardier plant is extending its hours of operation by adding an extra shift in the wake of threats of legal action made by the Toronto Transit Commission.
Last week, TTC officials announced they want their board to take Bombardier to court and seek $50 million in repayment for the late delivery of new streetcars manufactured here in Thunder Bay.
In response, Bombardier has made several moves to try and speed up production. One of those moves announced this week is the addition of an extra shift at the plant. Local Unifor president Dominic Pasqualino said that could lead to more new hiring.
There's also a major management shake up at Bombardier. Carolyne Leroux replaces David Reid as plant general manager. Leroux has served for five years as Director of Projects at the Thunder Bay plant. Pasqualino said he's pleased to once again have a local person in charge of the operation.
