THUNDER BAY — Bombardier Transportation will make an announcement to its workers in Thunder Bay on Wednesday.
The company is keeping the substance of the announcement closely under wraps, but speculation among plant workers is that it will be good news.
One source said "rumours about contracts" have been circulating for the past week or so.
Another told Tbnewswatch that Bombardier has been working to get passenger rail car orders in the U.S. under conditions which would circumvent the federal government's "Buy America" provisions.
Employees have been advised that details will be released in the afternoon.
About 550 people were laid off at the end of 2019, but there's still enough work for 420.
In addition, a few dozen employees were recently recalled to produce hospital ventilators for use during the COVID-19 pandemic.
