Book enthusiasts hunted for their favourite novel at the Friends of the Thunder Bay Public Library fundraiser.
More than 20 people attended the opening of the Buck-a-Bag fundraiser in support of the Thunder Bay Public Libraries at Victoriaville Mall Saturday morning. Many looked through the hundreds of books for their favourite novel or anything else that caught their attention.
Alisha Seguin looked through the fiction section for copies of the popular Twilight series. She said she liked books that had supernatural elements and were romantic.
“I like those kinds of books because they’re spontaneous and you don’t know what’s coming next,” Seguin said. “You can’t go wrong with a buck a bag.”
Lillian Cormier also looked for a romance novel. She said found them interested and particularly liked books by author Nora Roberts. Cormier said she liked the fundraiser and thought it was an excellent idea.
Sierra Trees-Turner, who helped organize the fundraiser, said they had a Buck-a-Bag fundraiser earlier in the year at the Westfort Street Fair but decided to hold another one because of the amount of books they had left. The first Buck-a-Bag raised more than $500 but Trees-Turner said they are happy with any amount raised.
“It’s the first time that we’ve done this two times in a year,” Trees-Turner said. “People really look forward to it because it is a great bargain. We didn’t count them but we put out so many cases but there’s easily a couple hundred cases of books.”
She added all the funds raised will be distributed to all four libraries across the city. The book sale is expected to wrap up around 3 p.m.
