DULUTH, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Border Cats were swept Tuesday in a day-night doubleheader on the road against the Duluth Huskies.
The Cats dropped the opener 12-4, giving up nine runs in the ninth inning to erase a 4-3 lead, and were doubled by an 8-4 count in the night cap.
Luke Roskam homered and drove in three to lead the Huskies in afternoon contest, technically a home game for the displaced Border Cats whose Saturday home opener is finally in sight after spending the first 16 games of the season on the road.
Cats reliever Austin Cook was hard hit in the ninth, giving up seven runs on three hits and three walks to take the loss.
Stephen Yancey picked up the win for Duluth in relief.
Duluth’s offensive attack was a little more spread out in the second game.
Carter Hanford was 2-for-4 and scored three times for the Huskies, while Gabe Lozada scored twice and had a pair of hits for Thunder Bay.
Jackson Hickert earned the win for Duluth, with the loss going to Jesse Bogacz (0-3), his third in three decisions.
Thunder Bay starter Connor Centala, getting just his second call of 2017, lasted all of one inning, leaving after giving up two hits and two runs in the first.
The two losses drop the Cats to 6-10, six games back in the Northwoods League’s North Division.
