Boutique hotel in progress on the city's south side

The boutique hotel is expected to open early 2026 and will offer extended stays.

THUNDER BAY — Terralux General Contractors is in the process of building a 25,000 square foot boutique hotel on the city's south side.

The hotel, Lux Suites, will have a total of 24 units, with three storeys and eight suites per floor.

Cherie Papa, managing partner of Lux Suites, said the rooms are significantly larger than a standard hotel room, including barrier-free accessibility rooms.

“They’ll all have walkout balconies, and our main level will have the walkout greenery for a pet-friendly space.

“This is definitely going to be geared towards extended stays with the fully stocked kitchen, the in-suite laundry, and larger rooms."

Papa said the demand for something like Lux Suites is huge in Thunder Bay, with many hotels frequently being full.

The lot, on the corner of Edward Street and Redwood Avenue, has been vacant for more than 20 years.

“It's just going to be a beautiful asset to the neighbourhood for sure,” she said.

With Chapples Golf Course, the airport, and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre all in the area, Papa said Lux Suites will play an important role in enhancing the experience for visitors.

The boutique hotel is expected to open early in 2026.

“We're acting very fast, and we're going to be welcoming our customers. We cannot wait to open our doors in early 2026 and welcome guests to experience the unmatched comfort, style, and convenience of Lux Suites,” she said.

The project's price tag is between $8 million and $9 million.

“We're super excited to be a part of the Northwood Village now," Papa said.
