The tall ship HMS Bounty left the Thunder Bay harbour Thursday morning, following Wednesday's public viewing which attracted thousands of people down to the waterfront.
The world famous ship raised her sails early Thursday morning on her next journey to Green Bay, Wis. Organizers of the Thunder Bay visit say about 5,000 people came to see it Wednesday. The popular ship drew attention because of its ties to Hollywood movies and actors. Tour organizer Kerry Berlinquette said they hadn't made any predictions about the number of visitors but they're thrilled with the turnout and what she calls the smooth handling of the big line-ups at Marina Park.
While there were some complaints about the wait times, most people expected a line-up and were prepared to sweat it out in the heat she said.
Although most of the event went smoothly, one issue may have cast a shadow on some visitors; parking tickets. Berlinquette believes about 10,000 people were trying to get to the Marina, which had limited areas available for parking.
Berlinquette said the organizers have received suggestions for how to improve for the next tall ship visit.
