A Thunder Bay boy is being called a hero in the eyes of Canada's Governor General, after coming to his grandmother's aid following a car accident in July 2011.

During Monday night’s city council meeting at city hall, nine-year-old Gage Carne received a certificate of commendation from Mayor Keith Hobbs, on behalf of Governor General David Johnston.

On July 29, Louise Taylor lost control of her vehicle near Kapuskasing.  The vehicle flipped over and landed on the roof.

Taylor became trapped, but Gage helped free her from the wreck.

In addition to the certificate, Gage received a big round of applause in the council chambers, and handshakes from all of the city council members.
