A late-night Van Norman Street cleaner got a bit of a surprise early Friday morning.

While working, the cleaner heard the sound of glass breaking and then saw a man kicking in the side door.

The suspect, armed with a piece of glass confronted and chased a 38-year-old worker, who escaped and called police.
The suspect then tried to break into a vehicle, was unsuccessful and fled on foot.

Police arrived and searched the area, arresting a 24-year-old Pickle Lake man matching the description on Tupper Street. He was arrested without incident and taken to police lock-up, where he awaits a court appearance on Friday.

The arrested man, who police have not named, was charged with break and enter commit robbery.
