THUNDER BAY - A local resident had an unexpected and frightening surprise when he was forced to confront an armed and intoxicated intruder in his home early Thursday morning.
The Thunder Bay Police Service said in a media release that officers received reports of a break and enter after a 22-year-old Frankwood Avenue resident confronted an intoxicated male with a flashlight at 5:30 a.m.
The suspect pulled a knife on the resident before fleeing the property. Police were provided with a detailed description of the man by the homeowner, who last saw the suspect in the Kenogami Avenue area after following him.
A man matching the same description was later seen by officers on Oak Avenue. He was arrested and following a search, police found items on the man were believed to have come from a Roland Street business, which police discovered later was also the subject of a break and enter.
Police have charged a 27-year-old Fort Hope man with two counts of breaking and entering, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
He is expected to make his first court appearance on Friday.
