THUNDER BAY -- An arrest has been made in a series of recent armed robberies and break-and-enters.

Thunder Bay Police, in a release issued on Thursday, said the first incident occurred on Jan. 13 at a business in the 200 block of Bay Street. Police say when they arrived they discovered someone had used force try to gain access to the building, causing damage the business' property. Police also learned someone had also stolen store merchandise before fleeing on foot.

A second incident took place on Feb. 5 at a business in the 200 block of Red River Road, when a man, allegedly armed with a knife, was accused of robbing staff of store merchandise, just after 12:35 a.m.

Eight days later police were dispatched to the 200 block of Bay Street after receiving a report of a third break-and-enter, the perpetrator fleeing with undisclosed store merchandise.

As a result of Thunder Bay Police's break-and-enter unit, officers were able to identify a male suspect, and linked him to the Jan. 13 break-and-enter. The accused was located at a residential address in the 100 block of Cumberland Street South at about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Christopher Tyrone Oombash, 36, was arrested and charged with robbery with an offensive weapon, break and enter and four counts of breach of probation.

The accused appeared in court from the District Jail on Friday, Feb. 18 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
