Firefighters battle north-side blaze (12 Photos)

Firefighters are battling a north-side house fire right now on Regent Street near Red River Road.

THUNDER BAY -- A third-floor fire rendered a north side home unliveable on Tuesday morning. Local firefighters are at the scene of a north-side house fire.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters responded to reports of a house fire on Regent Street near Red River Road before 10 a.m.

Heavy smoke billowed from the windows on the top floor of the three-storey home by the time firefighters arrived on scene and fire broke through the roof just after suppression efforts were underway.

The owner was not home at the time of the fire but told a tbnewswatch.com reporter at the scene that no one else was in the home.

A fire department release states the owner reported the third floor was undergoing renovations. It was extensively damaged.

A preliminary investigation is underway. Crews remain on scene and the structure is deemed uninhabitable, as hydro and gas are disconnected.

In total, 28 firefighters attended the scene.
