THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Police Service is investigating Tuesday’s sudden death at a Brent Street home as the city’s 13th homicide of the year.

Investigators made the determination following the results of a post-mortem examination and continued investigations, the TBPS said.

Police identified the victim as Corey Glen Ashley Belesky, 31, of Thunder Bay.

In a press conference Friday, acting Det. Insp. Robert Gombola said police had not identified a suspect or determined if multiple suspects could have been involved.

Gombola said there were indications the incident was "not a random event," but couldn't yet say if a weapon was involved, noting he had not yet seen the full results of the post-mortem conducted Friday.

Police were called to a home in the 100s block of Brent Street just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, after receiving reports of an injured man.

An adult male inside the home was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It’s the 13th homicide police have reported in 2022, topping a previous record of 11 in 2014.

The TBPS had already expressed concerns earlier this year over the growing number of deaths, with many linked to gun violence and the drug trade.

Officers with the Major Crimes and Forensic Identification units are involved in the ongoing investigation of the Brent Street death, the TBPS said.

The force is appealing to members of the public who may have relevant home security or dash camera footage in the area surrounding Brent Street between 6 p.m. on Oct. 31 and 3 a.m. on Nov. 1 to come forward.
