Brick facade crashes to Algoma Street sidewalk

No one hurt in Tuesday afternoon incident outside north side salon.

THUNDER BAY – A portion of a grey brick facade above a north-side salon came unexpectedly crumbling down on Tuesday afternoon, crashing onto the sidewalk below.

The partial collapse also brought down a pair of signs attached to the front of the Beauty House on Algoma Street.

Dan Cheal, owner of Junk Away, said he received a call from Coun. Brian Hamilton, who operates the Bean Fiend located next door to the salon, and he and his crew were on scene in minutes to clean up the mess.

“He said they’ve got a bit of a situation on Algoma Street. He said to get a couple of trucks down here. We were here within probably 15 or 20 minutes. One of the walls had come down on the building here,” Cheal said.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

“There were a couple of customers sitting on the patio here and they heard a loud crash. The good thing is they were far enough out of the way there was no damage to them or anyone else.”
