The graduating class at St. Patrick High School gave a colourful show of unity, which caused some friction with the principal there today.

Around 150 Grade 12 students showed up this morning with their uniform shirts tie-dyed. Principal Francis Vereruz was not amused with what he calls an arbitrary decision to disrespect school uniforms. The Catholic school board has a strict dress code that prohibits non-uniform apparel.

Veneruz said he immediately told the students to change their shirts or they couldn't go to class. The majority of the students ended up gathering in front of the school instead. None of the students would speak on the record, but said the shirts were simply a celebration of their last day at school.

Veneruz said he would have allowed a dress down day had students requested it.

Later that day the school held an assembly where they announced that $38,000 had been raised for several local charities.
