Broadway is returning to Bay Street.
Two years after Applauze Productions first hosted a musical theatre revue at the Finlandia Club, they are back next week with three shows fittingly called Broadway’s Back on Bay.
“It’s an amazing celebration of musical theatre,” said director Thomas Russell.
“We’re doing pieces from both classic and current musicals.”
The show will feature musical numbers from shows like Les Miserables, Godspell, Company and Guys and Dolls and boasts a cast that ranges from eight-year-olds to stage veterans in their 50s, said Russell.
“It’s a great cross-generational cast,” he said. “When we had kids here for rehearsal the other night it was sort of a crash course of musical theatre for them.”
Producer Denise Krawczuk said the night is about celebrating musical theatre.
“It’s basically the dream songs for most of the cast,” she said. “Something they’ve always wanted to do and come alive on stage.”
The show is also a chance for the company to give back by donating the ticket proceeds to P.R.O. Kids.
Russell said they chose to fundraise for the organization because it gives children in the city to chance to access arts and recreational programming they aren’t able to afford.
“And because we have youth in the show, it’s a great connection for them to give something back to folks their own age,” he said.
