Burgers to Beat MS taking place at A&W (4 photos)

Two dollars from each burger sold will be donated to multiple sclerosis research.

THUNDER BAY – Buy a Teen Burger, support a worthy cause.

It’s a deal that makes Thunder Bay’s three standalone A&Ws the place to be on Thursday night. The annual Burgers to Beat MS campaign is taking place, with $2 from the sale of every Teen Burger going to help fight the disease.

To entice hungry donors, the company is throwing a party at each of its local locations. There will be a car show at the Harbour Expressway restaurant, a motorcycle show at the Memorial Avenue location and crews from Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will be at the Arthur Street site, allowing youngsters of all ages to check out their firefighting equipment.

Each restaurant will also feature live music and entertainment, including jugglers, musicians and bouncy castles.

Lori Martineau, the owner-operator of the three A&Ws, said the goal of the country-wide the drive is to raise $2 million in 2018.

“It’s a great cause,” Martineau said.

If the lines at lunch were any indication, it won’t take long to get there.

“We have great support from our community and there will be a great response tonight, with them bringing the classic cars to the Harbour Expressway. We’d like to see all the bikers come to the Memorial Avenue location,” she said.

Marc Larocque, a fundraising co-ordinator with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, said the money will be used to help cover the cost of research into finding a cure for the disease.

Seeing A&W jump on board is fantastic, he added.

“I think it’s absolutely amazing that an establishment like A&W is in partnership with the MS Society because A&W is so well known and so well liked, especially locally,” Larocque said.

“Everybody loves Teen Burgers and Thunder Bay is a burger kind of city. Over the past 10 years they’ve raised $11 million for the MS Society and it’s absolutely wonderful.”
