Burst pipe keeps Edward Street closed (2 photos)

Repairs were delayed until today.

THUNDER BAY —  A City of Thunder Bay crew hopes to complete repairs to a broken water main by the end of the day Wednesday.

The pipe burst overnight on New Year's Eve, flooding the Edward Street/Redwood Avenue intersection.

Edward Street remains closed between Churchill Drive and University Drive until the repairs are done.

A spokesperson in Sewer and Water operations says water service is cut off only to one business in the area.

Repairs were put off on New Year's Day because of a lack of available staff, and because the crew had to deal with a more serious water main break on the north side of Thunder Bay which affected about 20 residential customers.

There have been three water main ruptures in the city over the past several days.
