At least one person was sent to hospital after a collision between a school bus and a car on the city’s North side.

Fred Calich was outside of Abacus Computer Solutions having a cigarette with friends on North Cumberland Street around noon on Tuesday when a school bus hit the back of a Nissan car.

“Our backs were turned to the street and all of a sudden we heard this loud bang and we turned around and thought ‘what was that,’” Calich said.

“I saw the bus stop and we saw all the parts flying off and saw the back of the car all pushed in.”

Story continues after video ...

Calich said he thinks the car slid about 50 feet before coming to a stop South of Van Horne Street. The bus driver ran to the car to see if the driver was alright. Emergency personnel had to remove the female driver from the car before taking her to hospital in an ambulance.

With cars coming and going from businesses in the area, Calich said there are a lot of accidents on that stretch of Cumberland.

“It’s bad,” he said.

The school bus did not appear to have any passengers.

Emergency officials were not immediately available for comment.
