Busker's Festival set to impress

Organizers hope last year's total attendance is exceeded.

THUNDER BAY - If the recent revitalization of the Bay and Algoma district can be boiled down into one weekend, the Busker’s Festival best represents it.

After a year where organizer’s estimated 5,000 attended the festival in 2018, they’re expecting even more in 2019.

“Crazy mayhem,” said Busker’s chair Uriel Lubuk when asked to describe the event. “Guys on stilts, balloons, guitars, festival foods, a dog zone.”

The two-day event, now in its seventh year, is set to feature 40 performers from as far away as New Zealand. Residents and tourists can expect a wide variety of music, entertainment, and food.

“The neighbourhood transforms into a huge sidewalk sale,” said Lubuk. “It’s a carnival environment, almost like a big city feel.”

Lubuk said the festival epitomizes the togetherness of the community.

“There’s a lot of community involvement, these people are showing stuff that they’re proud and passionate about. It’s just super fun, vibrant, and colourful.

The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday and is sponsored by Toy Sense.

The performance schedule is available online at bayalgoma.com.
