The Thunder Bay Port Authority says Keefer Terminal has closed what it calls an "exceptional" shipping season.

As a result an upsurge in project cargoes, volumes through Keefer hit a 19-year high this season.

A shipment of structural steel that arrived on the MV Vikingback last week was the final delivery. It was the fourth in a series of structural steel shipments received at Keefer this year.

The Port Authority says its cargo terminal handled a variety of both inbound and outbound items this year including electrical transformers, wind turbine components, wood pellets, mining equipment, and components for an oriented strand board plant.

It's projecting another strong season next year, with additional shipments of electrical transformers already scheduled for the spring.

Keefer Terminal is Canada's furthest inland general cargo marine terminal, and serves western Canada as a hub for dimensional and heavy-lift project cargoes.
