THUNDER BAY -- A 34-year-old woman remains behind bars after allegedly brandishing a knife during an altercation at a north-side pharmacy.

The accused, Jessica Robin Wenjack, has been charged with assault with a weapon following an incident at a North Cumberland Street pharmacy on Thursday.

City police said the suspect approached a person waiting at the pharmacy counter and then proceeded to go through that person's backpack before presenting a knife. A bystander and pharmacy staff intervened and stopped the assault after an initial struggle.

The suspect, who fled, was later found in an area on Tupper Street between Cumberland and Court streets.

Police said the victim, who suffered minor injuries, was known to the alleged assailant.

Wenjack appeared in court on Friday and was subsequently remanded into custody.
