THUNDER BAY — An outbreak of C. Difficile in one unit of St. Joseph's Hospital is now over.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit and St. Joseph's Care Group made the announcement Tuesday.
The outbreak was declared on Nov. 30, 2021 in the Hospice/Palliative Care unit (4 North).
Details about the extent of the outbreak were not disclosed at the time.
However, a hospital spokesperson told TBNewswatch the threshold for declaring an outbreak is three cases.
C. Difficile bacteria can cause an infection of the large intestine.
Symptoms may range from diarrhea to life-threatening damage to the colon.
