Calendar parking returns with winter weather

Stormy weekend weather means calendar parking is back in effect in Thunder Bay.

This means motorists cannot park along priority routes, hospital or school zones, transit routes, the downtown cores or emergency routes from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. to allow for efficient snow removal. Restrictions will also apply to other streets subjected to calendar parking, and marked by sign, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The date – whether it’s an odd or even day – will determine whether parking on a particular side of the street is allowed.

“Based on last night’s snowfall and the forecast of more snow to come, we must now begin to enforce winter parking restrictions,” said James Coady, manager of the city’s parking authority.

Unless waived under the bylaw allowance, calendar parking will remain in effect until March 31. It was waived about three weeks earlier in 2010.
