THUNDER BAY — Calendar parking restrictions go into effect in Thunder Bay on Tues. Dec. 7.

The city made the announcement Monday morning in the wake of the first significant snowfall of the season.

Environment Canada recorded 15 centimetres of snow at Thunder Bay Airport.

Despite forecasts on Saturday that predicted between 20 and 30 centimetres would fall, meteorologist Steven Flisfeder said that as of Monday morning the highest total accumulation reported at other locations in or around the city was only 16 cm.

Rural school bus runs were cancelled and Lakehead Public Schools kept five rural schools closed on Monday.

The area may receive more snow on Thursday but Flisfeder said that at this point it's not expected to be a significant amount.
