THUNDER BAY - A Calgary man is facing several charges after fleeing from police Sunday evening.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police media release, officers with the Thunder Bay detachment received a traffic complaint Sunday evening just after 6 p.m.

Officers learned the vehicle was travelling down Highway 11/17 in Conmee Township and headed toward Thunder Bay.

Officers intercepted the vehicle but the driver failed to stop when police activated their emergency lights.

After the suspect began to drive more aggressively and at a high rate of speed, officers decided to discontinue the pursuit due to public safety concerns.

The Thunder Bay Police Service were made aware of the pursuit and assisted in stopping the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Highway 61.

As a result, 39-year-old Ugochukwu Bon-Chinaka of Calgary has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.

His next court appearance is scheduled for October 2020 in Thunder Bay.
