Can you help Chelsea solve a mystery?

Eleven-year-old Chelsea Ellard found a uniquely carved schooner off an island on Lake Superior. Now the young girl is trying to discover its origins

This story comes to us from reader Denette Maslach after 11-year-old Chelsea Ellard stumbled upon a mystery on Lake Superior:

This past Labour Day long weekend 11-year-old Chelsea Ellard, of Thunder Bay, found a little wooden three masted schooner marooned on a small island on Lake Superior.

This island is located within a group of islands known as The Susies.

The island is situated near the US border between Grand Portage and the Pigeon River Border Crossing. (N 47 degrees 58.718 W 89 degrees 35.287)

The sailboat was hand carved with very distinct designs carved on the hull, a rock for a keel and birchbark for sails.

But where did it sail from?  Who carved this beautiful little vessel?

Wherever it originated, it must have travelled many miles as The Susies are a considerable distance to any port.

Can you help solve the mystery?

If you have any information, please let Chelsea know!
