Canada Day fireworks cancelled

Due to weather, Canada Day activities at the Marina including the fireworks display have been cancelled.

Despite the rain, some people still came out to the Marina for the kick-off of the Canada Day celebrations, which were then cancelled due to rain.

THUNDER BAY - It’s not the happiest national birthday for the people of Thunder Bay, as rain has dampened festivities.

Canada Day activities at Marina Park have been cancelled, including the fireworks display that caps off the celebration. The celebrations opened at 6 p.m. Sunday evening, but were cancelled shortly after 7 p.m.

Ash Young, cultural development and events supervisor said the decision was made because of the weather, which included heavy rain at times.

“It is really difficult to make the decision to cancel everything,” he said.

However, the fireworks will be back at the Waterfront and have been scheduled for the last Live on the Waterfront concert on Aug. 29.

“They are definitely postponed,” Young said. “We still own them and we still own the contract. There would be a rain date if possible.”
