THUNDER BAY – Canada Post has resumed delivery after a winter storm forced it to suspend service on Thursday.

The postal agency had issued a “red service alert” early Thursday afternoon, recalling its mail carriers due to a heavy snowfall, with Environment Canada calling for up to 15 centimetres of wet, sticky snow.

Canada Post updated that to a “yellow service alert” on Friday morning, saying deliveries will resume but could be delayed.

“We encourage customers to clear the ice from their walkways, stairs, and driveways, to ensure safe access to the front door for both their visitors, as well as their mail carriers, when service resumes,” the agency advised in a statement.

Residents who have questions about mail delivery can contact Canada Post’s customer service department online or at 1-866-607-6301 (TTY: 1-800-267-2797).

Environment Canada called for flurries throughout the day on Friday, bringing a projected 4 to 6 additional centimetres of snow.
