OLIVER PAIPOONGE – Rick Potter says it’s time for a change and that he is running for the Oliver Paipoonge mayoral seat because he can make a difference and he thinks that the municipality needs that difference.
“This election is about accountability,” he said. “The failure of accountability for an amalgamation nobody wanted, the failure of accountability for [an] electoral process that nobody wanted, and the failure of accountability for the spending of large sums of money without any financial planning,”
Potter says that he will take a business-like approach to work if elected mayor and he has a plan for the changes he wants to bring to the community.
“First of all, there will be no amalgamation with Conmee or any other municipality. Second of all, there will be a complete review of the voting process to bring back paper ballots,” he said. “Third of all, everything will be done by a business plan and fourth of all there will be an immediate reduction in the number of closed meetings at the municipality.”
Potter says that another thing he wants to get done is to return to in-person voting as he says that 75 per cent of Oliver Paipoonge does not have access to high speed internet.
“There's a huge segment of our populations that's disadvantage; they're not comfortable with voting online, and they want, and they need to get back those paper ballots,” he said.
“The municipality has worked with several providers to try and expedite that process, but as we sit here today looking at this election, it's not a sane thing to do. We need to get back to the traditional form of voting until we get there.”
Potter says that the community should vote for him because his campaign is based on truth and proven experience from his 40 years working as an executive.
“A businesslike approach to how we do things and an accountable businesslike approach to how we do business: accountable to the taxpayer,” he said.
“Listen to the taxpayer and make sure you can account for every cent you spend on behalf of them.”
