THUNDER BAY — The plan to submit a capital budget estimate for a new Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters building has been delayed.
The police services board had directed that the item be included in the 2023 capital budget, which will be prepared later this year.
But at this week's board meeting, the order was rescinded.
It means the capital budget submission won't happen for at least another year.
Senior police administration advised the board that the first phase of design development for the new building needs to be completed before the capital cost can be calculated.
That won't be done until sometime in 2023.
City council earlier this year authorized $2.4 million for project management, design, site analysis and property acquisition.
A previous estimate put the cost of the project at $56 million.
