A local car dealership was busy giving back Wednesday.
For the third year Performance Kia participated in the Drive Change Day, a chance for all 174 Kia dealerships across the country to give back to their communities. Performance Kia took the day to raise food and money for the Regional Food Distribution Association.
Dealer Principal Bruno Niederer said with the shelves bare at the association and 13,000 people a month looking for food there, the dealership wanted to to what it could to help.
"That's a lot of mouths to feed," he said. "We try to make a difference in our community."
Along with the dealership’s goal to raise about $18,000 for the RFDA, it's donating $2,500 over the month of August to another organization -- Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
Anytime a person test drives a vehicle at the Memorial Avenue dealership, Performance Kia will donate $25 to MADD. Niederer said his dealership has put 10,000 new and used cars on the road in Thunder Bay since opening.
"The community is good to us as a dealership," he said. "They're all driving and we want them to drive safe so we embrace MADD."
