THUNDER BAY– Confederation College held a successful Career and Job Fair Wednesday, for the first time using a virtual platform to facilitate the event. While the virtual format was motivated by the current COVID-19 situation, the platform worked to enable expanded participation from both employers and job seekers across the region. Over 80 employers participated hoping to hire skilled Confederation College students, graduates and other attendees. Confederation College Alumni Services, the Student Union (SUCCI) and Northwest Employment Works (NEW) collaborated to organize this event.
“By bringing over 80 employers together virtually in one place, we were able to create a positive, interactive environment where job seekers could explore a range of unique career opportunities suited to their skill sets,” said Brad Halabisky, Operations Supervisor, Northwest Employment Works. “The strong response we’ve had from employers shows that there are many great opportunities throughout our region. Both NEW and Confederation College are committed to supporting a strong and growing northern economy and are excited to have been able to offer this virtual opportunity to connect employers and job seekers.”
Job seekers were able to virtually interact with employers, ask questions and even submit resumes for open positions. They were also able to speak with new staff about the free Employment Ontario services they can access as they continue their job search.
