City of Thunder Bay Media Release

November 9, 2016, Thunder Bay – For the second year, the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) will host its Economic Trends and Career Paths forum today from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at the Italian Cultural Centre.

Local high school teachers and guidance counselors will hear from presenters representing many local industries and sectors. Speakers will advise the teachers and guidance counselors of the types of workers they employ and the career paths available in their organizations based on economic trends.

The intent is that teachers will then bring timely information back to the students.

“The goal is for students to be able to make informed decisions about their plans for after high school and consider career options they otherwise may not know about,” tells John Mason, Project Manager – Mining for the Thunder Bay CEDC.

“Two previous events in 2015 helped create a stronger interface between school boards and industry/business.”

There are over 70 high school teachers and guidance counselors from various schools and school boards attending the seminar.
