THUNDER BAY - A 90-year-old man has been charged with careless driving after striking a pedestrian at the intersection of Bay and Water streets earlier this week.

The Thunder Bay Police Service announced the conclusion of the investigation into the Wednesday afternoon crash in a media release, saying the driver was making a right turn from Water Street onto Bay Street on a green light, at the same time the female victim was walking along Water Street with the pedestrian crossing signal.

The 48-year-old woman remains in hospital in serious condition. A friend was able to assist in identifying the victim nearly 24 hours after the incident once photos of the clothing worn at the time of the incident were distributed by local media.

Police said they were assisted in the investigation by a dash camera from a vehicle in an oncoming lane at the time, which allowed officers to watch the collision.
