THUNDER BAY – It’s a good bet that Gateway Casinos Thunder Bay will be a pretty popular spot on Friday.
Closed since Christmas, the facility is set to reopen at week’s end, permitted to do so with capacity reduced to 50 per cent under Step 3 of Ontario’s reopening plan.
It’s a day customers and staff have been waiting for for months, said Tony Santo, Gateway Casinos’ chief executive officer.
“We are excited to finally reopen casinos and community gaming centres across the province, and welcome back our employees and valued customers into a very safe environment for gaming and dining. As always, the health and safety of our employees and customers are paramount,” Santo said in a release.
Santo said the Thunder Bay facility will work with local public health officials and regulators to prevent the spread of COVID-19, with staff wearing personal protective equipment and masks will be mandatory for guests.
Barriers and social distancing rules will also be in place.
“We operate in one of the most highly regulated business environments in the province with more rigorous oversight and controls than any other business in the hospitality sector,” Santo said.
“At Gateway, we have developed extensive health and safety plans that have been independently reviewed by a health and safety subject matter expert.”
The Thunder Bay location will be open 9 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.
