THUNDER BAY — A province-wide strike by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Federation will close all English-language Catholic elementary and secondary schools for one day on Tuesday.

It will be the first time the union’s 45,000 members will walk off the job in more than 20 years.

The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board says OECTA has notified it that its local members will set up information pickets at St. Bernard School, Pope John Paul II School, Bishop E.Q. Jennings School and the government building on James Street from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The board is advising parents to arrange alternate childcare arrangements.

Clients of before and after-school daycares should contact their daycare provider directly for information regarding hours of operation and services that may be provided during the one-day strike.

The Lakehead Public School Board will be hit with a one-day strike by its elementary teachers on Thursday, Jan. 23, forcing the closure of all elementary schools in the system.

All four teachers' unions in Ontario are currently engaged in various job actions against the provincial government as collective bargaining has failed to produce new agreements.
