TORONTO — A day after Ontario's public high school teachers staged a one-day strike, the province's Catholic teachers have announced they will soon be in a legal strike position.
The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association has received a "no board" report from the Ministry of Labour, which starts a 17-day countdown to a legal strike position.
OECTA requested the report Friday after the failed efforts of a provincial conciliator who was appointed to help the union and the government reach an agreement.
Union president Liz Stuart said OECTA has not established a strike date.
However, in a statement, Stuart said "This should serve as another wake-up call for Premier Ford and [Education Minister] Lecce that it is time to get their act together."
Public high school teachers continue an administrative work-to-rule campaign, and have warned they could stage more walkouts until they obtain a settlement with the province.
