Ontario’s Regional Chief is asking participants in Wednesday’s Day of Action to remember safety first.

In a letter addressed to First Nations community chiefs and councils across the province, Stan Beardy urges caution and care.

“If you have not already contacted the local police service in your area I urge you to do so and inform them of your plans,” Beardy writes.

“This will ensure that appropriate parties are informed of what will take place and will enable your communities and citizens to go out and exercise their right to make their voices heard in a safe environment.  It is important that we put forward our message in a strong, safe and peaceful manner."

Beardy, the former Nishnawbe Aski Nation grand chief, goes on to say First Nations people taking part in the protests have his full support.
