St. Joseph's Care Group's new supportive housing units will soon have a title that honours a community builder.
The eight-storey facility is being named the Sister Leila Greco Apartments, in recognition of one of the dedicated nuns from the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Greco is credited with having the vision for St. Joseph's Heritage, which opened in 1979 and was said to be years ahead of its time.
The new 132-bed supportive housing complex is being built on Lillie Street, as part of the Centre of Excellence for Seniors.
Officials with the St. Joseph’s Care Group said the CEISS project fits in perfectly with Sister Lie-la's vision for Thunder Bay.
They added that the name also honours all the Sisters of St. Joseph, who have served the North since 1884.
The new building is scheduled to open at the end of this year.
