Cell phone issues affecting 911 service

Police advise public to use landline if possible until the situation has been fixed.

THUNDER BAY – City police says a problem with the cell phone system in Thunder Bay is causing problems when member of the public try to dial 911 from a mobile phone.

Police say if anyone experiences difficulties accessing 911 with a cell phone to use a land line, if possible.

There is no indication as to how long the problem will last or when it will be corrected.

Tbaytel, on its website, acknowledged it is experiencing issues with the cell phone system. 

"Please be advised Tbaytel is currently experiencing an issue with HSPA mobility call processing resulting in some customers experiencing dropped calls, whether it be to another cell phone, landline or Tbaytel customer case. Technicians are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible," the municipally owned utility statement reads on the company website.
