FORT FRANCES, Ont. — The Board of Directors of Riverside Health Care in Fort Frances has announced the sudden departure of CEO and President Ted Scholten.

In a brief announcement, the board stated that Scholten was replaced on Jan. 8 on an interim basis by Riverside's Chief Operating Officer and Vice President, Henry Gauthier.

The statement expressed gratitude for Scholten's contributions during his tenure, saying they are valued and appreciated, but it provided no other information.

Scholten was appointed to the position in April 2015.

In October 2018, Riverside entered into a three-year third-party management agreement with Extendicare Assist for the operation of Riverside's long-term care home, Rainycrest.

In February 2018, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care had ordered that new admissions to Rainycrest be halted due to repeated non-compliance with provincial regulations.

When the ban was lifted in March 2019, Riverside issued a statement saying this was a tribute to the commitment and dedication of staff and management to improving residents' care.
