THUNDER BAY -- Community partners joined forces to plan a healthier life for local children. The Healthy Kids Community Challenge involved city officials, the District Health Unit and mor than 50 representatives from various sectors of Thunder Bay Tuesday morning.

They were strategizing with parents and students on how to help children and families in the community become more active. The focus is on certain neighbourhoods at a time. Healthy Kids coordinator Marianne Stewart says outdoor play equipment is a good start.

Neighbourhood parks will be looked at for ways to encourage more outdoor play. Other factors such as proper outdoor lighting will be assessed as well.
