THUNDER BAY – Local businesses were recognized for their achievements over the year at the annual Business Excellence Awards held Thursday night.

Held at the Wasaya Hangar, the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce’s Business Awards of Excellence celebrated Thunder Bay's business community – with 71 nominees in 12 different award categories.

Charla Robinson, chamber president, said it's important to recognize the accomplishments of local businesses, big or small.

“Being nominated is just a huge honour, and it's a great way to really highlight some of the successes in our community. So, we're happy to do that,” she said.

Among the recipients Thursday night was Newmont Musselwhite Mine, which received the large business excellence award.

Jones Insurance received the medium business excellence award, Carol's Cakes received the small business excellence award, and St. Andrew's Dew Drop Inn received the award for Not-For-Profit Excellence.

A special award was also given out during the celebration. Thunder Bay Mayor Ken Boshcoff received the Charles J. Carter Lifetime Business Achievement Award.
