THUNDER BAY — A project Thunder Bay Airport describes as a direct response to feedback from the community will see construction commence soon on an expanded parking lot.
The airport made the announcement on social media.
It said the work will be conducted in stages, and that some sections of the existing parking lot will be temporarily unavailable as the project progresses.
Details will be revealed once construction is set to start.
The airport said signage will also be installed at the lot entrance to guide users throughout the construction phase.
"With the growing number of travellers through YQT, this upgrade supports future airport growth and regional infrastructure needs," the announcement stated.
Preliminary images of the new lot design show it includes a new roadway.
On social media, several people suggested the airport authority should build a parkade rather than expand the parking lot.
Newswatch has reached out to airport officials for more information but has not yet received a reply.
According to the 2024 annual report, 728,000 passengers passed through Thunder Bay Airport last year.
