THUNDER BAY -- The future of Chapples Park will be decided Monday night at city hall.
Thunder Bay city council will be asked to vote on a master plan for the park, a plan that imagines Chapples without baseball.
In the public consultation stage for months, the plan calls for big changes starting with the loss of the nine baseball diamonds in the park.
The report says data shows the city has an over-supply of ball diamonds and goes on to say the space freed up by the loss of baseball could be used on other sports.
There would be an expansion of track and field facilities, new indoor facilities for tennis and soccer and two new artificial fields for soccer and football.
City staff are recommending council approve the plan.
