Charges laid after fatal motor vehicle collision

A 22-year-old man has been charged with careless driving causing death following a collision Tuesday afternoon.

THUNDER BAY – A man from Indiana has been charged following a motor vehicle collision on Highway 502 that left one person dead Tuesday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police confirmed Brent Hershberger, 22, of Indiana has been charged with careless driving causing death and careless driving causing bodily harm.

The collision occurred Tuesday around 2:30 p.m. on Highway 502, about 20 kilometres north of Highway 11.

The investigation revealed a northbound motor vehicle collided with a southbound motor vehicle. A passenger in the southbound motor vehicle was confirmed deceased at the scene. Both drivers were taken to hospital by EMS.

The OPP Technical Collision Investigators also assisted in the investigation. Highway 502 was closed for approximately eight hours.

The deceased has been identified as Jean Steele, 87, from Emo, Ontario.
