Charges laid following vehicle fire

SIOUX LOOKOUT – One man is facing numerous charges following a string of traffic-related incidents on Wednesday.

According to Sioux Lookout OPP, officers received multiple reports of a possible impaired driving on Wednesday around 9 p.m. in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.

Police say the associated vehicle was located, engulfed in flames.

The driver of the vehicle was located and arrested.

Robert Martel, 40, of Sandy Lake First Nation has been charged with dangerous operation, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, failure or refusal to comply with demand, arson – damage to own property, mischief under $5,000, uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm and failing to comply with probation order.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing Aug. 5.
